Kai & Kōrero with the Voyagers

In April the seismic blasting ship, the Amazon Warrior was confronted by Te Ikaroa's voyage on Te Matau a Māui

Since November the seismic blasting ship, the Amazon Warrior, has been searching for oil off the coast of Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa on behalf of Statoil and Chevron.

Its supply vessels have been met by protests at Wellington port, and on water it has been confronted by Te Ikaroa's voyage on Te Matau a Māui and Greenpeace boat Taitu. Protesters got into the water to block the vessel's path and are facing charges under the Anadarko Amendment.

See here and here for great footage of Te Matau a Māui.

Te Ikaroa public meetings

Indigenous group Te Ikaroa have continued their hard work to show the huge opposition from hapu and iwi of Te Tai Rāwhiti. They held a Summit earlier this month about oil exploration and their recent actions at sea, with speakers Tina Ngata, Raihania Tipoki and Moana Jackson. You can view the talks here.

Kai & Kōrero with the Voyagers

Kai & Kōrero with the Voyagers is planned for Friday 6th May. Raihania Tipoki, Tawhana Chadwick, Neha Karaka and Tabai McGregor-Burt are all descendents of Te Ikaroa Rāwhiti. They are also ocean voyagers about to depart for Hawaii to join a traditional ocean voyaging canoe building program. While they are travelling they will share the story of resistance by their peoples of Te Ikaroa Rāwhiti against oil giants Chevron and Statoil.
