Wellington Bus Drivers Strike

Bus drivers across Wellington are about to go on strike, for the first time since the 1990s.

Join us in Cuba Mall on Labour Day, October 22 at noon. There will be live music and speeches. Show your support for the men and women who keep our city moving!

If the bus companies don't negotiate a fair deal to fix this mess, on October 23 bus drivers will shut the system down.

Bus drivers warned the Regional Council its new system wouldn't work. The Regional Council didn't listen, and now Wellington's public transport is an ongoing disaster.

Drivers not only have to deal with this mess all day, they've also had their wages and conditions slashed by new employers. A company called Tranzit took over many Wellington bus routes, and has refused for months on end to negotiate with the Tramways Union. Some drivers risk losing as much as $200 a week from their pay under the new contract. Another company, NZ Bus, has signed an agreement. If they can, why can't Tranzit?

Enough is enough. All of us in Wellington have been ripped off, and the bus drivers are fighting back for all of us.
