Peace March - Stop the Weapons Expo
For 20 years the Weapons Expo has been in Wellington apart from 2016 when it went to Tāmaki Makaurau, this year the annual NZDIA weapons expo will be held in Palmerston North. And this year people will again protest it.
After being chased out of Wellington and Auckland the Weapons Expo is coming to Palmerston North. Join us and Stand for Peace!
What: Peace March - Stop the Weapons Expo
When: Wednesday, 31 October 2018 from 11:30-3:30
Where: The Square, Palmerston North, New Zealand 4410
The Weapons Expo is a trade fair for major weapons companies, including Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Thales and Northrup Grumman. These companies come together at the Expo each year to carry out business deals that fuel a global war machine that causes death and destruction in countries across the world. War is not just another business and no-one should profit from it. Profiting from war and suffering is immoral. The global spend on weapons and war in 2017 was $ US 1.7 trillion. That is $230 for every person in the world. What would you do with your whanau's collective $230?
The arms trade as a whole needs to be tackled, and not just the worst excesses of it. It serves to aggravate global instability and misery and we should work to dismantle the industry wherever we find it.
