Transformative Justice Workshop

Practical ways of solving interpersonal harm and conflict in our communities, hosted by People Against Prisons Aotearoa

n this workshop members of PAPA will introduce the basics of Transformative Justice and go on to break down some tricky issues that often arise during a transformative justice process.

Given the nature of issues we’re addressing, there will be discussion of sensitive topics such as physical, emotional and sexual violence, as well as suicide.

We ask everyone involved to participate as according to their own comfort levels. People are welcome to take a breather or leave if they need to at any point.

The topics addressed will be:

  • What transformative justice is and why we need it
  • What we can learn from Tikanga Maori
  • Getting clear: understanding types of violence and how to address them
  • Supporting survivors
  • Intervention: Holding perpetrators accountable

We aim for everyone who attends this workshop to leave with an understanding of how to practically utilise methods of transformative justice to address and transform violence in their communities.
