Protest - Waihopai Spy Base
A protest will be held outside the Waihopai spy base on Sunday.
A demonstration will be held at Waihopai Spy Base - this Sunday at 2pm.
The protest is timed to precede the second reading of the Bill.
The Bill is set to be handed over to the Speaker of the House on Friday, and a time will be set for its second reading - probably a date next week when Parliament is back in session (30th and 31st July and the 1st August.)
The Bill expands the powers of the GCSB and allows them to legally spy on New Zealanders.
Green list MP Steffan Browning said, "Marlburians have been relaxed about the base's presence in the region, but events have shown we are not safe from it."
The protest will be at the base, Waihopai Valley Rd, at 2pm on Sunday, July 28.
