T.J. Tallie’s #weaponisedfashion
Talk = q&a with self-confessed ‘snarky queer black unicorn’ from California
Thursday 26th October, 6pm 19 Tory Street, Wellington
The Collectives who activate the space at 19 Tory Street are super excited to be hosting T.J. Tallie in Te Whanganui-a-Tara.
T.J. is an African historian and self-confessed ‘snarky queer black unicorn’ from California! His work focuses on questions of gender, race, sexuality, and identity in comparative colonial societies. His other research interests include imperialism, settler colonialism, indigeneity, African history, gender studies, queer theory, and religion.
T.J. will be talking about queer bodies, fashion, and moving through colonial spaces, in connection with his super awesome fashion blog.
With looks ranging from ‘Academic Sea-Witch’ to ‘Fabulous in the Face of White Supremacy’, it documents his #weaponisedfashion, the attempts to pointedly and purposefully occupy space as a queer, black, fat male professor on a Southern university campus.
Following on from this will be an informal Q&A session. T.J. is real keen to meet and hear from local badass activists, so please come and join us for what promises to be an inspiring and fun evening!
