In 2006 -2007, activist film-makers Mike Smith & Hinekaa Mako were filming a series of oral history interviews with kaumatua in Taitokerau when the Oscar award winning documentary " An Inconvenient Truth" was released worldwide. This ground breaking film explored the global impact of climate change, and it predicted catastrophic threats to human life on earth.
