A WEEK OF ACTIVITIES IN SUPPORT OF THE DOMEBUSTERS

 

The Waihopai Ploughshares are on trial this week for deflating the concealing dome of one of the communcation (e-mail, telephone, etc) satellite interception dishes in the Waihopai Valley near Blenheim.

The Waihopai Ploughshares Support Group is organizing a “Vigil in the Park” during the week at Katherine Mansfield Park (Fitzherbert Terrace, near US Embassy).

Other solidarity activities are oganized throughout the week at various Wellington City locations. Please join us!

 

Saturday March 6

11.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. Information stall. (Cuba/Manners Mall). Come along and learn the connections between the USA Waihopai spy base and Afghanistan, Iraq, Asia, and New Zealand. Organized by Peace Action Wellington.

5.00 to 9.00 p.m. Powhiri, shared meal, speakers and discussion, Taize prayer. Katherine Mansfield Park (“Vigil in the Park”). Organized by Waihopai Ploughshares.

 

Sunday March 7

10.00 a.m. Mass. Katherine Mansfield Park

1.30 p.m. Pilgrimage for peace. “Way of Peace” Starts at Suzanne Aubert Compassion Centre, 132 Tory St. Organized by Wellington Catholic Peacemakers.

5.00 to 9.00 p.m. Ploughshares liturgy service, Taize prayer. Katherine Mansfield Park

 

Monday March 8

8.30 a.m. Assemble at Cenotaph, silent procession at 9 a.m. to District Court (43-49 Ballance St, off Lambton Quay) for a silent vigil. The trial starts at 10 a.m.

 

1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Picket / vigil at headquarters of GCSB. Freyberg House, 2 Aitken St. (enter through St Paul’s Square next to National Library, 58 Molesworth St)

5.30 p.m. Peaceful protest. “Women Say No to War and Spy Bases”. Starts at GCSB HQ.  Organized by Peace Movement Aotearoa and Women Support Waihopai Ploughshares.

9.00 p.m. Taize prayer. Katherine Mansfield Park

 

Tuesday March 9

1:00 to 2:00 p.m. picket / vigil at US Embassy. (29 Fitzherbert Terrace, corner of Murphy St. Parking on Fitzherbert Terrace; access via Hobson St).

5.30 p.m. Walk. “Stations of the Cross” Starts at District Court. Organized by Waihopai Ploughshares Support Group.

9.00 p.m. Taize prayer. Katherine Mansfield Park

Wednesday March 10

1:00 to 2:00 p.m. picket / vigil at British High Commission.

(44 Hill St, off Molesworth St)

7 p.m., public meeting, St Johns Church Hall (corner of Willis & Dixon Streets). “Waihopai: The Spybase; The Wars; The Trial”. Speakers: Murray Horton of Anti-Bases Campaign; Moana Cole of Ploughshares; Bryan Law of Christians Against All Terrorism (Australia); Keith Locke of the Green Party.

9.00 p.m. Taize prayer Katherine Mansfield Park

 

Thursday March 11

1:00 to 2:00 pm picket / vigil at Australian High Commission.

7.00 to 10.00 p.m. Celebration concert. Katherine Mansfield Park

 

Friday March 12

1:00 to 2:00 p.m. picket / vigil at Canadian High Commission
