Philippines: Duterte curses Pope Francis over traffic during his visit

It seems not even Pope Francis is spared from presidential aspirant and Davao City mayor Rodrigo Duterte’s characteristic cursing.

During PDP-Laban’s formal declaration of him as their presidential candidate on Monday, November 30, Duterte made the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics the object of an expletive.

As he was wrapping up his speech during political party PDP-Laban’s declaration of his presidential bid, he began talking about the time it took him 5 hours to reach a mall from his hotel while in Metro Manila last January.

What caused the delay? Traffic jams in the mega-city due to the visit of Pope Francis that month, he said.

Maintaining his joking tone, Duterte said, “Pope, you son of a bitch, go home. Don’t visit here anymore.”

Rodrigo Duterte: The Donald Trump of the Philippines?

Davao, Philippines - Guns line the walls of his home.

He is accused of killing suspected criminals. He kisses female supporters on the lips and litters his campaign speeches with an endless stream of obscenities - he has even cursed the pope.

It's hardly presidential behaviour, and he is not your average presidential candidate. But Rodrigo Duterte could be the next leader of the Philippines.

...Duterte's unabashed affection for Ferdinand Marcos, a former Filipino president who declared martial law in the 1970s, also has observers worried.

Roxas accuses Duterte, NPAs of harassing LP mayors

Liberal Party (LP) presidential candidate Mar Roxas accused yesterday the New People’s Army (NPA) of threatening some mayors in Panay to refrain from campaigning for him.

“They have been sending them letters warning them of harm if they continue campaigning for Daang Matuwid candidates and Mar Roxas,” he said.

Roxas tagged presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte as responsible for the harassment of the Panay mayors, saying it is only Duterte who has very close ties with the NPA.

Duterte, who is reported to have links with the NPA based in Southern Mindanao, was seen in a video chanting “Mabuhay ang NPA” (Long Live the NPA).

Philippines: Presidential Frontrunner Vows to Give U.S. ‘A Sh*t,’ Cut Ties over Rape Joke

Rodrigo Duterte, currently the frontrunner in this year’s Philippine presidential elections, has vowed to “sever” ties with the United States over their criticism of a joke he made about an Australian rape victim. The threat comes at a time of high tensions in the South China Sea, where the U.S. is aiding the Philippines in keeping China from usurping much of its territory.

....“If I become president, go ahead and sever it,” Duterte said, adding that he would give both countries “a sh*t” if they continue to condemn him. “Do not interfere, it’s election time, you better shut your mouth,” he warned.
