DLANZ International Disability Day A Disabled Message to NZ Politicians and World ‘Show Integrity 2011 TO NOW
Yesterday was the December 3, 2014 and was International Disability Day. IRONICALLY a Radio Station called ‘The Sounds’ had a Top 10 at Ten am show and the year designated 1981. This was the International Year of the Disabled Person and here in New Zealand / Aotearoa, Disability was the theme for Television’s 24 hour Telethon.
As one who was there at the time and partook in its promotion during the good and bad times of the era, my Waiata for this korero / story is ‘All Those Years Ago’’ by George Harrison 1981 A Hearty Shout Out to all from the Past the Present and for the Future. Back in the day when I had no computer my correspondence was done by hand writing Letter to the Editor to many Newspapers on issues where I felt Disabled’s views needed airing on a various range of subjects; local, regional and central.
In the final of the Old Letter Series 2009-2013 I wrote this to the Western Leader December 2011 not long after the General Election. With the exception of Hone Harawira who donated back to his community, I am unaware of what other MP’s did if anything. That being said; we have seen a raft of legislation that reinforces what DLANZ wrote as a World Theory based in a World View.
It would be fair to say that: From Damascus to Darfur, Doha to Detroit and all the way back to Dargaville...Children suffer in poverty, while hypocrisy reigns / rains (Refer i.e. 'Solutions to Child Poverty in NZ' 2012) With over 260 thousand kids already; living within these paradigms, the last thing this country needed was an extended casino in Auckland SIS Investigations among other issues... DLANZ remains convinced that Governments who put people ahead of profits abdicate Sovereign Responsibility.
Amid the commotion of election 2011 there was a news item that Parliamentary MPs were getting a 1.5 percent increase and a (Christmas bonus) payment of $ 5000.
Never mind the Teapot tapes—with everyone going on about poverty, violence and the desire to let money dictate this country. Isn’t it about time the highest court (The Beehive) started showing integrity to its citizens?
As a token of sincerity, I hope those MPs donate their bonus back to maraes, food banks and women refuge for toys, kai and company.
