For a start I do not condone violence on police or anyone and are not advocating it. It is Collins reactionary backward policies that are to blame ,handing even more power to police such as search ,stopping of drivers to drug test anyone ,draconian measures to deal with boy racers and riding roughshod over basic civil liberties that suit her warped ideolgy are the real problem. And this little gem when she was interviewed by Campbell,

"we are basically taking away the pressuption of innocence isn't it great?" Who the hell can respect a police force like this?

why not send her a email and let your thoughts be known .

It is the media's job to

It is the media's job to report on events, and that is what they're doing. The poor perceptions of police behaviour are due to the poor behaviour of some police. Quite a few police are actually good people with principles who do want to make society safer. - I expect to be flamed for that statement! ;-)

Diverting the blame elsewhere, rather than taking responsibility, is common amongst abusers. Until the minister faces that fact, nothing will change, the recovery process will not begin, and the good cops will continue to be tarred with the same brush as the bad cops.

It is also a worry that the minister's statement could signal the beginning of a crackdown on media coverage of police abuse of power.

While on one hand the media

While on one hand the media are lazy and sensationalist and pandering to their paypackets, they still have to maintain the false perception that they are balanced. So for every 2000 press releases they post verbatim to their news outlets from police spin central under the guise of daily reporting, they pretty much have to post the odd item that is not 100% pro-police or else the gig will be up that the police are their primary vendor for news.

bad cops tarred with 'good' cop brush

In my experience it's the bad cops that are generally tarred with the same brush as the 'good' cops in a majority of the police propaganda that's published or reported on in this country...

Point taken but I am sure there were some stand up chaps in the 3rd reich as well, but in the end the majority of the organisation is rotten, so the rotten cops whose crimes cannot be covered up will stain the records of those whose crimes can be covered over, and the few who commit not crimes as well.

well well well-whaddya know

BOTTOM LINE IS

The bottom line is that Judith Crusher Collins is a hard-core right-wing conservative. She has been staunchly pro police and pro punishment from the first go! She has no time for researching the true causes of crime, no time to spend on offenders and wants a large proportion of society behind bars, because to her they deserve to be there and nowhere else!

NZ follows a hopeless line of policies under this government, and it admittedly did so under the previous one. They concentrate on the criminal, the offender and acts of crime, same as the media does. No questions are asked or researched anymore what may be the reason and cause behind all this.

It seems that to them some people are "born bad" and must be locked away forever! That is maybe more politically correct "humane" than putting them into gas-chambers and/or sterilising their off-spring. The mentality behind it is not that much different from what the Nazis did!

The media loves all this, it makes headlines, sells stories and shows that they supposedly "care" about the victims, "Joe Average's security" and so on.

There is no value in what they do. They may report a bit of a critical article now and then, but in general they promote and uphold the unjust, discriminatory, suppressive and capitalist system as it is. They earn their living from it. Hence you have sob-stories on "Close Up", "Campbell Live" and commercials for all kinds of crappy products and services in between, which is what it is all about anyway. They attract us with drama reporting to watch their shit, then in return we are expected to sit through the ad breaks and suck in all the consumerist crap theat they really want us to be interested in.

If that is not a SICK society, I do not know what is!

Of course often the Police are the meat in the sandwich, having to serve as the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff and so forth, but there are many rotten bastards amongst them.

I know what it is like to be put into a cell and punched into the face, because they did not like what I may have critically said! So all those dumbos going on about the good and the bad cops, why do the supposedly "good ones" continue to stick up for the rotten ones and cover their back-sides then?

when i was just a kid of 17

when i was just a kid of 17 ,i was arrested and taken back to the police station ,because i did not want to give the name of a mate to them ,i was intimadated and slapped around by two police officers ,two grown men picking on and slapping a scared kid ,fuck the nz police !

That proves that they "make" some criminals!

As I have learnt through own experiences with the "boys in blue", the problem is that they like to pick on people ending up in dire straits. They soon enough have their eyes on you and target you again and again. So many young people get very upset and angry, then they say or do something that gets them before the court once again.

The absolutely narrow minded approach taken by the police and justice system in NZ in general is, that they criminalise people for often very minor "offences".

In other countries you may simply get a warning or a fine, but that is it.

Nothing would go "on record". Here you will end up on record for swearing, doing something disorderly and whatever else. It is so ridiculous, it clogs up the courts and is an invitation for the gangs to use the intimidating system to get young recruits that have experienced first injustices and get disullusioned with the system we have.

So it is all totally counter productive.

The beneficiaries are lawyers, judges, the police and so to make a career out of chasing all this kind of stuff up for endless nonsensical reasons.

They should concentrate on real crime and give other people, especially young and unexperienced ones, a fair chance before chasing them into desperation.

A real crime is when you do some real harm to other persons, that is different to off the cuff swearing, throwing a bottle or can somewhere, diagreeing with an officer or similar!
