Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

in

Saturday 23 May 7pm
The New Crossways, Roxburgh St
$7 unwaged/$10 waged

An awesome evening of curries and movies in solidarity with political activists arrested in 'terror raids' in the United States and New Zealand. The film 'Terrorizing Dissent' focuses on the events leading up to the Republican National Convention in Minnesota last year, and the 'pre-emptive' arrest of 8 political activists on trumpted up charges. The evening will include speakers from the October 15th Solidarity group (www.October15thSolidarity.info) and the RNC 8 (www.rnc8.org), along with music and political stalls from various groups.

Chur Mean As, Solidarity

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

$7 for low income people? Way too much.Surely koha should be considered. And please don't say "no one will be turned away" They wont come when the see the cost. Please reconsider that price for low income people.

The kaupapa is good

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

Low income people would spend that at McDonalds - i.e. crap food that shortens their life, and no film.

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

7 bucks for dinner and a movie!
Where else can you get that

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

Guess u never lived on the unemployment/sickness benefit and/or lived on the street with no money.

Is this the answer from the organisors?

Re: Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

actually, right now I live on an invalid's benefit.

With a week's warning and some careful planning, I can afford $7 for a night out - that will help me cope with my illness far more than sitting at home criticising a bunch of people for co-ordinating what looks from here to be a really entertaining event.
(no, I haven't been to the meetings, didn't help organise, so will be going on a 'pot-luck' expectation that this will be another awesome Oct15th Soli crew event!!!)

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

Thanks for that but I await an reply from the organisors of this event.

And as hard as it is to live on the invalid's benefit I guess u also know then how much harder it is to survive on the sickness/unemployment benefit. Do you deny that fact? You only just survive on your benefit.

And please note I said the kaupapa was good but the cost is too high. It puts low income people off from going. Why would you do that? Maybe there is a alck of understanding of how it is to have little or no income? Maybe the organisors don't have a clue what is happening in the world of the low income? I guess once we hear from them we will know. But right now their silence is loud.

I will always support the low income. Sadly some here don't.

Re: Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

So what would an affordable price for people on low income be in your opinion?

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

I think you're confusing Food Not Bombs with this event, which is Food Not Bums.

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

Koha. pay what you can pay.

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

Yes, but we should recognise that this is a fundraiser, not a derro feed. If too many come along and turn it into a bum feast, they will eat up any funds raised.

In a depression, there are no trousers.

Re: Community Solidarity Dinner + Movie Night

Exactly. Us deserving poor are too proud to accept handouts. We leave that to Generation Y.
