Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

in

First issue of the Otautahi Mens Group zine is out now

From The Kitchen: Issue one of Aotearoa anarchist men's zine now out!

In what is perhaps a first for Aotearoa Pakeha anarchists (please let us know if that isn't the case) 'From the Kitchen' is a zine devoted to the discussion of anarchist mens relationship/response to the feminist movement(s) and our own sexist behaviour. The zine isn't about pointing fingers but instead is done in the style of critical self-reflection by the authors about sexism in their own lives.

Topics in the first issue include:

Me(n) and Pornography
Slugs in the Sandpit - The Gendered politics of the garden
Meat Robots Unite
Some thoughts on masculinity, authoritarianism and emotional intelligence
What is to be done- some reflections on current sexism in the anarchist movement.

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Good to see this discussion continuing. Would it be possible to get a .pdf of From the Kitchen zine? Rebel Press and Anarchia make .pdfs of their publications available on their website. In the case of Rebel Press this includes whole books like 'Against Freedom'.

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Is it just me, or are the images in the PDF covering the text somewhat? i.e. pgs 5, 13, 14, 15, 17.

Looking forward to reading the rest of it :)

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Hi I just checked out the pdf on Windows (Acrobat 6.0 Pro) and Linux (Evince Document Viewer 2.22.2) and it looks fine to me, possibly try updating your pdf viewer or try downloading it again

Layout problem

Ah, yeah, there is a problem when it's viewed in Preview (the default viewer that comes with OS X). Not the end of the world, but you might want to play with your export settings next time.

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Thanks for you feedback, I've got no way of testing settings with a Mac so it might be some trial and error :-)

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

What a load of feminist drivel from a bunch of brainwashed men. Its no wonder that the nuclear family is disintegrating with shills like this pushing barrows of mushroom fodder.

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Get a sub-editor! Or tell Grant McDonagh to split his paragraphs into sentences! Trying to read 80-100 words strung together with commas is headache-inducing. Good effort though, guys :-)

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

It's a good read, especially Russell's article. Porn is fake and promotes fake relationships.

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Fiction is fake and promotes fake relationships. Yeah right. Porn is fascinating for adolescents and others who haven't yet developed the social skills to get laid for real. Porn actors are exploited, sure so is every group of wage slaves. But has it crossed your mind that some people (male *and*female) might prefer getting paid to have sex on camera rather than stacking shelves or flipping burgers?

Re: Anarchist Mens Zine Out Now

Grant is Grant, and writes that way. I wouldn't like to be told how to write, so lets just take that into account that people have diverse and various ways of communicating. That said, I agree his style in that text is somewhat continuous.

The porn commment: I think you're missing the point. I'm not sure if you've read the article or not, but it's about definitions of porn, erotica and current trends of anarchist thought rgarding these definition. It's not saying being paid for sex is a less worthy occupation at all, so your comment, while relevant to a genral idea of the porn industry, doesn't seem to reflect the text in the zine. Have a read, it's pretty good. Or feel free to contribute your own views for issue 2.

Cheers
