Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

quick review:
very good zine. sharp analysis, practical advice, searing stories and qwirky graphics.
however wouldn't have minded seeing detailed A-fem perspectives on some topical auckland gender issues: Tony Veitch, Boobs on Bikes, latest victimisation of DBP mums.

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

The quality of the pdf seems fine to me. Contents are chilling. Gripping writing about horrible experiences.

My initial response to my first readthrough was that this really reinforces the need to stop protecting rapists. But the writings also show how cultural tolerance of more general types of physical abuse-emotional assaults provides a social camouflage for rape. This side seems to complement the other camouflaging aspect of rapist men being able to come across as 'sweet' or 'private' in the complex interplay of activist, social and family circles.

The first read has given me a lot to think about, trying to imagine how I might act if this dominance happened in my close personal life, as contrasted with hearing about rape incidents but only being able to directly engage with follow on events and different accounts from people I don't know very well. But then again, maybe this isn't actually a contrast at all. Just two different versions of the same fearful reason not to talk about things that must be talked about to stop them propagating under the cover of other talk.

You pronounced 'women' wrong. Crap kiwi non-education system.

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

I've had some problems trying to get the pdf to download - is it just me, or has anyone else found it won't play?

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

Pdf worked fine for me. Thanks to the writers for sharing their stories and making us think about some serious issues.

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

Hi. Couldn't download the pdf. Wondering if the article against all forms of gender violence covers physical/ emotional/ verbal/ social violence against men by womyn?

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

Yeah I had issues downloading the pdf from a windows pc using firefox, I could download using internet explorer and also firefox on a linux machine.

Great zine btw, some of the articles were very harrowing. Hope to see some copies in the Katipo PO Box soon :)

Re: MsFit August 2008 - OUT NOW!

Thanks AK A-FEMs for putting this together. A very powerful read. But not overwhelming - focused on challenging that rape-culture that still permeates our society.

love and liberation!
