Worldwide Protests Against Israeli Aggression from www.indymedia.org

Tens of thousands throughout the world took to the street on Saturday, July 22nd, to protest against the ongoing Israeli war on Lebanon and Palestine. For the past 16 days and nights, Israeli air forces have destroyed countless civilian buildings and means of transportation in operations that have killed hundreds of people, mostly civilians, and wrecked havoc on Lebanese cities, harbours, airports and other infrastructure, leading to the displacement of more than half a million people. The International Day of Action had been called by various anti-war and solidarity campaigns.

In Israel itself, at least 5,000 Jewish and Arab peace activists marched in Tel Aviv against Israel's war crimes. Israeli police arrest 3 anti-war protesters [Israeli bombardment of Lebanon violates humanitarian law].

In Chicago, US, some 3,000 people from the Muslim, Arab and progressive community took part in one of the city's largest protests against Israeli aggression since the beginning of the Second Intifada.

In the UK, up to 30,000 marched through central London. Similar, but smaller, demonstrations took place in other cities up and down the country, including Manchester, Sheffield, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Other Erupoean cities also saw some big protests: Paris, Amsterdam, Bremen, Warsaw and others. Some 10,000 people had demonstrated in Madrid on July 20th, and so had people in Rome, Athens, Stockholm and Canada [report].

In Oceania, thousands of people turned out at rallies in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide, while a gathering in Perth was cancelled by the police. Demonstrations also took place in Auckland and Wellington.

Re: Palestine/Lebanon solidarity events in Aotearoa

Oh yeah I saw those photos. Pretty screwed up. What kind of parent would let their kid do that?

Yeah great ..

Deeply fucked up, for sure, and so is that anti-semitic graphic on the bottom left hand side. It's also deaply fucked up when palestinians parade their kids around in suicide belts ...

Re: Palestine/Lebanon solidarity events in Aotearoa

anti-semitism- the call cry of the liberal idiot. Support Hamas and Hizbollah, or get out of the way.

Ah sure ok ...

But can you explain to me way I should be supporting nationalist authoritarian homophobic sexist religious idiots? Because they are fighting Israel? Should also be supporting neo-nazis? They are against the Occupation too. Hey and Iran oppose Israel too, we should really add them to
the list - kinda lucky that we don't live there though, cause they are busy right now arresting and torturing leftists.

I really sorry to be the one to inform you of this, but the world is a complex place. Often there aren't goodies and baddies like in the movies..

Re: Palestine/Lebanon solidarity events in Aotearoa

but aren't arabs semitic people? that would mean they can't be anti-semitic, anti-jewish or anti-the wall or anti-tanks demolishing homes maybe, but its good not to confuse the two.

Re: Palestine/Lebanon solidarity events in Aotearoa

Return New Zealand to Maoris!

Re: Palestine/Lebanon solidarity events in Aotearoa

if a country is occupied illegally by a foreign force they deserve solidarity regardless of that country's own problems with hierarchy and organisation.
