Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

in

The new US ambassador, William McCormick, was confronted this morning by anti-war protesters at Government House today where he was presenting his credentials to the Governer General. Fifteen anti-war protesters gathered at the entrance gate displaying a banner reading "Fuck off out of Aotearoa". Another group of activists also managed to get inside the huge garden and made their way up to the Government House with a banner saying "US terrorists out of Iraq". Eight Police turned up and as a paddy-wagon arrived the group of protesters decided to left together. One person received a written tresspass notice from Government House. [ Photos ]

One protester was arrested on Adelaide Rd. when walking into Newtown for using 'offensive' language at around 12:30pm.

"The U.S. Government is fighting imperialist wars in the Middle East. The profiteers are multinational companies who plunder the resources of the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. Mr. McCormick, as a representative of the U.S. Government, is responsible for the daily suffering of the Iraqi people and we feel he is morally obliged to step down from his post." said Valerie Morse, a member of Peace Action Wellington.

Well done everyone. Nice comment Val.
Who is that dude in the REDICULOUS uniform?! hahaha!!!

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

the dude in the uniform is a soldier. two soldiers were at the GG's house and told the people who got inside that they were 'detained' - of course they have no right whatsoever to do that...

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

Why obscure the faces?
If you're that ugly you should just wear balaclavas like your scummy murdering mates in Liberated Iraq.
Jesus, what big muthafuckin' heros.

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

God bless the United States. I'm delighted they're in NZ and hope one day our two countries will have a much closer and stronger relationship.

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

america needs to leave the 139 nations it has permanent bases within and leave the 191 nations of this globe the fuck alone for once. down with the american empire! may it fall.

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

It's only a matter of time before America falls. Historically, nearly all giant empires fall after about 200-300 years. The oil supply will run out, and deforestation will leave millions of humans worldwide starving in a desolate environment. Deforestation, a problem that has haunted man since his earliest days, is only now reaching world-wide proportions, the impact of which threatens us all. Maybe people will learn this time. Sustainability is key to the survival of the human race.

Just Iss, they obsure the faces so that mentally instable right wing crazies don't try to kill them. You see, unfortunatly, killing and destruction is what many ignorant, uneducated, and lost people are taught is the only answer, by their authoritarian governments from an early age. Unlike many I don't blame the people themselves. I know they're trying to do what they think is right, but are simply misled and lied to by multi-million dollar corporations and their propoganda. It's the companies who need to answer for what they've done, and are still doing. There is an answer to this, though. Education. Go out and learn, then put that knowlege to use where it counts.

The US has also used chemical weapons in Iraq:

And some of us Americans just can't figure out how there could be so many of us opposed to all of this yet Bush keeps "winning" elections. Many of us suspect voter fraud. Some have some compelling evidence of it:

Hope you all understand that more than half of us don't agree with what is going on and many of us are working daily to change our foriegn policy.

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

that soldier dude is a g-g's equerry, kind of like personal security, comes from back in the day when they were cavalry officers so the uniform is kinda silly. It's known as a cushy job for well-connected officers (in the UK, the High Commissioner's equerries are usually minor nobility)
who says colonial attitudes have been superceded?

Go PAW! Nice to start off the way you intend to carry on.... ;-)

Re: Protests against new US Ambassador - one arrest!

F*ck off out of Aotearoa is not going to get you any mainstream media attention and achieves nothing. Was this a real protest or another over-emotional freak out?

Wellington protesters like this give protest a bad name. When will people realise there's way to much ego going around - it works against you and everyone else who wants peaceful change.
