Hikoi Takutaimoana

A second hikoi is starting in Auckland this weekend to protect Maori land rights and to oppose further confiscation of the foreshore and seabeds. A solidarity hikoi is also happening in Dunedin.

Hikoi details:

Auckland: Assemble in Mayoral Drive (behind Aotea Square), Auckland City from 9am, Saturday, 16 October. The hikoi commences at 10am and will proceed down Queen Street, Customs Street, Quay Street, Tamaki Drive (escort by waka taua), then up Kitemoana Street to Orakei Marae (Bastion Point).

Dunedin solidarity hikoi: Assemble at 10am Saturday, 16 October in front of the historic Rongo Rock memorial to Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kaakahi, passive resistance political leaders from Parihaka who were imprisoned in Dunedin. The hikoi will take the following route; along Portsmouth Drive, crossing at Anzac Ave into St Andrews St, along George St to the Octagon.

just had a lame idea. but everyone bring a packed lunch like sandwiches or whatever, or buy something from some independant food store up on kroad and bring it down. we can eat our lunch in there. ;-)

Yes stop our beaches being privatised in foreign hands. Stop corporate ownership of the beaches. Stop globalised governance of our oceans in foreign hands. Stop nuclear ships coming in....support the hikoi, ban the seabed bill.

Surely it would be better if the seabed and foreshore were in the hands of the people? IE. so that everyone could use it as they wished, wen they wished?
