Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
![]()
On Thursday night around 150 protestors continued to brave Wellington's galeforce winds as they awaited the verdict of the Goverment's foreshore and seabed legislation. The controversial legislation passed the first reading in the face ofoverwhelming public opposition. Notably Taraiana Turia and Nanaia Mahuta voted against the bill. The tearful and angered crowd greeted Nanaia Mahuta and Tariana Turia, with chants that included "Tariana for Prime Minister. The first MaoriPrime Minister".
The crowd demanded that Helen Clark and Parekura come and address them to no avail. The group had been prevented from entering the public gallery, and had been forced to huddle around a transister radio held up to megaphone to hear the debate inside. Within Parliament, Speaker Jonathan Hunt silenced the few people allowed into the public gallery for clapping when the leader of the Green Party spoke. Protestors vowed to return to Parliament, and to take their protests to the beaches.

Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
That is so typical of everything that is wrong with parliament as a supposedly 'democratic' institution. It is exclusive in every sense of the word. There is a pepeha (proverb) that translates as "mistreat your guest and your marae will turn to dust". No marae would EVER make people wait outside in the cold while an important hui that affected them was taking place.
Parliament must go.
Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
i think our moronic media needs to go first! Even turning off the tv cant obliterate the madness these days - and its a pity so much of our country and the world dont have any ideas in their heads apart from what the latest "do this, dont do that, and ignore any other ideas" advertisement has buried in their craniums.
Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
The media doesn't seem to go indepth into the Seabed and foreshore issue. I think many people (including myself sometimes) do not understand the issue fully.
Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
I attended the Hikoi.Over Auckland Harbour bridge and Wellinton. I was very dissapointed to see that the government namely Ms Helen Clarke could not even give the thousands of people who had walked in the wind and rain the curtosy to formally acknowledge that we had even been on Parliament grounds.
But Leilani,,,,
Mrs Clark is niether courteous or a real woman, after its shrek comments did anyone think it would come out? It is a disgrace, especially to women.
Re:"MANA WHENUA- MANA MOANA" NGAI TAHU
Like many others who travelled from Te WaiPounamu,we "all came together as iwi maori"to stand for what we believe in,who we are and what we inherited for our future mokopuna as kaitiaki.the hikoi was one of the most moving occassions of recent I have had the priviledge to attend.we sent the message to the nation we are true brothers and sisters, who are loyal honourable and a people of integrity, and that! they can never take away from us.no MATTER what "law"they change or make, our LORE will give us strength and bind us together because of tikanga and whakapapa.WE now need to be sharp in our thinking and attitude and NOT let the westminster establishment seperate us. when it comes to iwi whenua, fish, business, and all things that make us unique.May 5th 2004 we demonstrated to the world the strength of unity,in my view we build on that for our moko.my challenge is for iwi maori and those who read this ,make it happen.......refer to the letter Te Runanga O Ngai Tahu-Mark Solomon published in all the national papers, to all the members of parliament, may 4th 2004 about the breach of our and all N.Z.ers rights....
Re: Whina Cooper and Norman Kirk

"THE WALK OF JUSTICE AND EQUITY UNTIL THE LAWS OF THIS COUNTRY RECOGNISE RANGATIRATANGA IWI MAORI"
colonialist terrorists never ever recognize any rights or laws. you will be walking an eternity when you could do like old america, and throw the scum out, back to holier than tho shitland.
Brits give white people a bad name. white middle class NZ cannot stand the truth after institutionlised racism for 160 years. 1835 was long after 1776, why is the Declaration of Independence from England here not honored?
LYING LESBIANS! & Masonic judges/cops, (actually a disgraceful way to govern and be seen in a global community).
Naughty dk
dk by spreading your dogma you come across as very uneducated and a fascist thug!
Sorry,,,
as you know actually I am not, but stooping to Don Brash fan language seems to suit readers like Eric bazza and such nice folks.
it isn't my Dogma, there actually is a Declaration
and pomasons really do suck (no big secret eh?), should I make an "intelligent" post to throw'em off? ;>
Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues

Very naughty dk and go back to school!
Dk - you're very dogmatic by being a stool pigeon for the popularist propaganda that this current government likes to dish out!
Eric's hairdresser - I don't understand you because your use of the English langauge is awful. Your spelling is so bad I can't read it, so go back to school to learn it and pay attention this time!
Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
All around the world Pakeha have uprooted, destroyed and maimed native people. When are they going to stop being such a nasty detestable people.
Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
All around the world Pakeha have a very very long history of uprooting, destroying and maiming native people even as I write its happening today. When are they going to stop being such a nasty detestable people. Why does everything have to be about greed with them? Why is it that everything has to be about control and power? They teach us how to be saints but they don't eat their own words! They steal and make laws to suit themselves and have the ordacity to preach to others about whats right and wrong. The invade native people's homelands and walk around like its ok but when a native person invades their lives they're put in prison, shot, mutilated, raped and so forth and get away with it. Well Maori are no different. When Maori invites people to their home they are welcomed and its for genuine reasons for friendship. An invite is an invite, Maori are not saying, "welcome, you can walk all over us", or "welcome, you can show me disrespect", or "welcome, shit on me all you want". New Zealand is in a turmoil because Pakeha caused it to be not Maori. Pakeha have always been insensitive and deceitful. You only have to look at the histories of the world.

Students with discriminative and prejudicial agendas saw an opportunity to attack me based on my being a Maori. They publicly set out to deliberately humiliate me because of a message I wrote for the world to see on the internet a couple of years ago. But you see, that was me back then, at that particular moment in time, it lasted only for a brief season in my life. We each have our own life stories to tell, and the experiences we enjoyed or didn’t enjoy. Mine was the anger I felt when I began to learn about how my ancestors were treated and the underlying tactics upon my people at that time. It wasn’t until I received feedback on my university assignments that made me rethink what I had become and why I became an angry person. It was not that I was angry at the Pakeha people of today, it was because I was angry at the Pakeha people of yesterday – the days when my ancestors were walking these lands. I was generalizing not realizing the repercussions that might follow after I wrote my internet message. I am not a racist person. I just discovered how life was for my ancestors. Therefore, I humbly stand here before you, and I apologise to all those who were offended. I am not a perfect person – I am just a genuine person with a passion for caring and helping people regardless of who or what they are. I made a mistake, as many of us do. I had forgotten all about the message I published on the internet simply because I had moved on to better and greater things. A student said to me the other day it’s a pity not a lot of students know what you have actually done for many students past and present. I didn’t know how to respond to that, I guess it’s because I’m not the kind of person to put myself out there, I don’t seek fame or recognition. I just have a passion for helping anyone. I sat down the other night and listed all the things I have done for students and I was going to mention those today but I decided it’s not like me to voice what I do. I have considered carefully of the workload I have at the present time and have decided to withdraw my nomination for President of EITSA. I would like to thank all those who supported me. I will always continue to lend a helping hand. Thank you. Kia ora koutou katoa!

Re: Re: Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
you ARE a racist person, blaming the "pakehas" for your own issues.
Re: Re: Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
People who accuse others for innocent mistakes are themselves in need of psychological help. People who admit their mistakes are genuinely remorseful and are wise. They don't have hidden agendas. People who attack those they know nothing about the person they are attacking are themselves making unjust judgments.
Re: Re: Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
What a truth bender you are! You did not withdraw from the EITSA Presidency race, you just didnt get in. A "pakeha" was voted in, im sure to your disgust! As for your apparent change of views on pakeha, that also is a load of bull, during the election time you posted numerous racist comments about pakeha and my guess would be, that is why you were not elected.
Re: Re: Re: Re: Voting on the Foreshore Bill: Protest continues
It takes a lot of guts for a person to admit they did wrong but it takes a gutless person to attack someone when they are being open and honest. Shame on you Anonymous 19 Apr 2007. Get a life!
