Clint Rickards, Bob Schollum, and Brad Shipton are all going back to court again for another rape.
The three men involved in the Louise Nicholas Trial: Clint Rickards, Bob Schollum, and Brad Shipton, are all heading back to court again on more rape charges. A trial date has not been set yet, but one can imagine the cries from the defence inregards to their respectable clients not being able to get a "fair trial". The victim of these allegations is not Louise Nicholas.
Prime News and TV1 News have both headlined it, but so far there is no printed media available to link to. It will probably be published tommorow so I suggest the Mods add it in when it becomes available.

Revealed: Louise Nicholas accused face sex trial over new woman

The three men acquitted of the rape of Louise Nicholas face another trial this year in relation to alleged sexual offending against another woman.
Assistant Police Commissioner Clinton John Tukotahi Rickards and former police officers Bradley Keith Shipton and Robert Francis Schollum are alleged to have committed the crimes during the 1980s.
The Herald supported the right of the public to know about the second trial before the High Court.
In a reserved judgement, revealed this afternoon, Justice Tony Randerson allowed the paper to report limited details about the case.
The complainant, who has name suppression, is a different woman from Louise Nicholas. Mrs Nicholas' allegations of rape were considered by a High Court jury in Auckland in March.
The jury in that case found the three men not guilty on a series of historic charges of sexual violation and indecent assault against Mrs Nicholas.
The acquittals set off a storm of protest, with one women's group distributing court-suppressed information about the three accused.
Extensive suppression orders surrounding the Louise Nicholas case and the upcoming High Court case remain in force.

In a previous post I defended the trial process of these 3 cops.
But having this extra evidence of further aleged rapes swings the balance in favour of Louise. If it was fair to bring up Louises' previous rape complaints, then the cops' other rape charge should certainly have been admissable in court.

I hope the breaking of supression orders over Louises' case (by the way I think the supression orders were wrong) don't hurt this one. Bastards. Lets see the pigs join together and try to make a mockery of this trial.

Fuck I hate those guys. Just seeing their pictures on the herald website makes my blood boil. I can't imagine how it feels for Lousie. Now she has to go through having their ugly evil mugs plastered all over the papers and TV again!

Makes you wonder how many of these trials the above mens families have been to, yet still believe and announce the "innocence" of their great husbands.

Yeah I wondered the same things. Surely this must be stretching family ties somewhat? I can understanding them 'being there' for these scumbags but during Louises' ordeal they were somewhat aggressive in their defence of these tossers.

Rape law and the trial process is fucked. The odds are stacked against the woman straight off the bat.This is a patriarchal system we live in an the powers that be have no interest (self) in changing the it.

Hey GCF, are you suggesting that defendants shouldn't been considered innocent until proven guilty?
Do you have a suggestion for an alternative way to run our courts?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending the police, just the process unless you can suggest an alternative.

Hey Lawyer, cool questions. No, I support the innocent till proven guilty stance... I just believe vital information was witheld from the jury in this case.
As for recommendations on how to run courts... I feel it's a lot more complex than that.
It's not just the courts that needs to change. It's societies attitude towards violence, particularly towards women. For hundreds of years it was standard pactice to beat women in the home. Legislation against that is a relatively recent thing. For a long time it was a 'domestic' matter, not something the 'public' realm should be involved in.
Even the terms we use to describe it these days paint women as victims or suggest it is a private affair. Wife beating, 'domestic' violence or family violence (which obscures it with other types of violence in the family)...we don't call it 'violent men'. "it's just a domestic" is a phrase we hear waaay too often to trivialise women getting hit. Why doesn't she leave? is a question which sweeps the myriad of issues under the carpet....we never ask why does he do it? or why doesn't he stop?
So many things happen that tell men it's ok to be violent against women and this is just another example.
Lawyer, I have no magic answers and frankly I'm not all that smart, but even I can see that societies attitude towards violence and the structures that encourage them need to change.
Perhaps there are brainier ppl than me out there with some cool ideas? It would be great to hear them. Lets try not to let it become a childish insult competition though as so often happens on this board.
