This year's National Peace Workshops, the national gathering for people interested in peace and social justice, are in Auckland over Labour weekend. There are speakers and workshops on - peace in Aotearoa New Zealand - the 'war on terrorism' - conflict resolution techniques and mediation - Te Tiriti o Waitangi, peace and human rights - the invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq - US nuclear and military space policies - children and poverty in Aotearoa New Zealand - witnessing the face of the 'war on terror' in the Philippines - parasites on poverty - a dialogue on faith and peace - prospects for peace in Aceh and West Papua - military and weapons related production in Aotearoa New Zealand - repeal of Section 59 of the Crimes Act - changing times in Tonga.
Plus! Saturday at 7-30pm: 'Breath of Peace / Tau Te Mauri', "a unique documentary featuring stories of eight well known New Zealand peace activists, natural history footage and contemporary Maori music".
Sunday at 5pm: Announcement of the winners of the 2005 DICK (Destructive Industry Connected to Killing) NZ Awards and the 2005 'Guided Missiles and Misguided Men' Awards for Government Politicians.
When: From 12-30pm on Saturday, 22 October, to 3pm on Monday, 24 October.
Where: Ponsonby Community Centre, 20 Ponsonby Terrace, Ponsonby, Auckland.
Ponsonby Terrace runs off Ponsonby Road just south of Three Lamps (the intersection of Jervois Road, College Hill and Ponsonby Road), All Saints Church is on the corner of Ponsonby Terrace.
