Women fast for peace with justice and self-determination.
On the second anniversary of the invasion of Iraq, two women have begun a fast outside the US embassy in Wellington. Hana Plant and Emma Wills are fasting in solidarity with the people of Iraq and victims of US imperialism everywhere; as well as the protestors violently arrested at an anti-war demonstration in Auckland this morning.
The two were part of a 150 strong demonstration which arrived at the embassy earlier today. Around 20 protestors have pitched their tents on grass nearby.
"Our action is an attempt to bring home the reality of violence and deprivation, which our consumerist lifetyles necessitate. So much suffering is caused by Western countries which choose to invade other peoples and steal their resources rather than limit their own consumption," said 20 year old Political Science student, Emma Wills.
"We were appalled to see police in Auckland violently silence a legitimate protest. The 'peace' they are defending is actually an ignorance of our government and the ANZ's participation in the invasion and occupation of Iraq," said topless gardener Hana Plant.

I think that the giddiness of youth has invaded the minds of these young ladies.
consumerist lifestyles causing all this violence and deprivation? what have these women been reading? the causes of the Iraq war and other scenes of atrocity (such as, but not limited to, afghanistan) are not simply the fault of consumerism. the history of islam versus christianity, british intervention in the 'middle east' (itself a westernism) and arab people themselves can all be included in the mix of A REASON why we have so much turmoil 'over there'
The US is an easy target. but only someone who is a little under-read will say it is the cause of all the problems
seems like someone is a bit of a media slut. and i say that 'word' without reference to the meaning that is a slur on women.

The word "slut" is a slur on women whether you like it not not. It's a misogynist term of abuse, arising from long held double standards on promiscuity. For that reason there is no equivilant term of abuse applicable to males.
