Battery Hen Farm Horror

Auckland Animal Action contacted the SPCA, MAF and the Franklin District Council yesterday morning. The SPCA have spent the last couple of days out there with a vet, removing what live hens are left.

The farm is apparently in the process of shutting down, but instead of taking the birds to slaughter, they decided to save themselves some cash and left the thousands of hens to starve to death.

The people responsible for this "farm" need to have their heads kicked in.

This is completely disgusting. And if the images do anything to people, it should motivate people into doing more and more liberations. This has to be a year of absolute exposure of these slave-sheds!

The images and film footage will be so vital into really defining the words 'farm fresh' for those unfortunate people who eat the eggs, and the expired carcasses. Though i personally feel more than a few sickly images flashed at people is needed.
It is direct liberations such as this that is so desperately in need.

It's been confirmed this is a Mainland Poultry farm, ie . the biggest battery hen company in NZ, who have stated repeatedly they have the best animal welfare and bio-security standards in the country.

They said a week or so ago they getting heaps more business becuase of the bird flu crisis in asia.

They sell their eggs as "country life" eggs, but also own "farmer brown"

Bob Kerridge of the Auckland SPCA is well meaning but conservative.
Its probably too much to expect them to come out in support of an illegal raid, but hopefully they will criticise the farm a bit more strongly than they did in that article
Officially the RNZSPCA is opposed to all factory farming. Unofficially quite a few (but not all) of their top people are also opposed to getting in the news for anything other than cutesy cat and dog stories.

This sort of neglect is typical really o big businessess, and well done to AAA who I support unequivocally and they derserve absolute merit!!!!

instead of "protesting" (70's 80's stuff) GO INSIDE whether they like it or not so you know for yourself. take RESPONSIBILITY for yourself. any group of girls can protest, the good folks at AAA got off toosh's and whacked a damned evil bunch right in the eye.There is nothing stopping you from doing the same (unless you forewarn them with some protest).

What species are we dealing with here? After all of the history of humanity, all the lessons, the so-called advancements, the schooltime lectures of pride in our "superior state". How do I channel the rage I feel toward these...these subhumans? I am so sick and tired of making allowances for the cruelty meted out by humans to the animal and plant kingdoms, sorry, that's too easy, to small individual lives, each one a billion times more precious than the scum which, not "who", did this.
I curse these people, I curse them to feel eventually the collective pain and fear felt by every single hen not just in this farm but in every chicken concentration camp around the globe, to feel the helplessness, the despair, the thirst, hunger, the pain and the confusion, to feel the death of what it means to be a hen in the eyes of these people. And let this horror remain inside the skulls of these people until they come to understand what they have done. And then let it remain there.

Maybe one way would be to get involved with an animal rights group in your area, groups are always needing more people to get involved and to help expose and put an end to some of the horrific things that are happening to animals in NZ. Most of which are happening behind closed doors.

Companies like Zeagold do not want public awareness about what they do to make money. This is one of their biggest fears, if not their biggest fear. They realise if people knew what they are doing, then most people wouldn't buy their 'products'

There are many different ways you can get involved to help stop animal abuse like taking part in phone in days against abusive places, going to demo's, or even better, getting a camera and going to some of these places and checking them out for yourselves.

Just think if the people that 'exposed' this farm and Mainland Poultry, hadn't investigated this farm themselves, then all those hens would of died, the farmer would of cleared out the sheds and Mainland Poultry wouldn't have had to go on telly and have to admit they f*#%ed up

Even though they haven't admited to everything and basically lied their arses off. It was still great to see Mr Michael Guthrie looking very uncomfortable trying to cover it, in front of thousands of people around the country, many of whom were very likely thinking 'what a

These people have no conscious all they see is $$$$$ and it is up to people like us to stand up against these bastards and expose them.

This kind of animal abuse is going to continue as long as the consumer wants to buy eggs. Unless you can present free range eggs on a large scale at a reasonable premium. Some of these large egg producers I suspect are producing "Barn Laid" eggs (which still limits natural food, space, freedom, socialisation and sunlight and charge a huge premium. These exorbitantly priced eggs "create" demand, therefore for the battery eggs, which in turns drives the consumer to "prefer" battery eggs.

What we need is a huge movement of animal-rights-minded farmers to form a co-op with a mission to prove to the consumer that free range eggs CAN be delivered to the consumer. Huge tracts of land exist which is unbroken and "scrubby" - ideal I would have though to fun-loving hens to scratch around in. You just electric fence strips of it, and rotate the grazing. The land is gradually improved because of the fowl manure going back into the soil, so the chickens actually give you more than happy eggs.

As for marketing, video footage at point of sale and kosher photographs of the hen's living environment, on the egg cartons, with the farm's address and invitation to visit should be clearly shown on the label. Is there an 'SPCA Approved' stamp which can be displayed to show the SPCA (not the egg industry or government) approves of the conditions.

I have seen the big 'STRICTLY NO ADMITTANCE EXCEPT ON BUSINESS' at the gates of pig and battery hen farms, and if that is there, you can be dead certain of what's going on.

Transparency should be a value attached to a free range egg brand, and unless the "Free Range" label gives me transparency - e.g. an open to the public farm - then I'm not interested.

Consumers, largely, choose brands that they can feel good about, that by buying it, they are making a contribution beyond the financial exchange.

wished the same treatment could be given to the wankers responsible for this..it should be circulated through schools. must start with the awareness of our children.

There are no words to describe how I feel on viewing this site.
It should be shut down immediately and those responsible should spend a year in solitary confinement in a prison on nothing but bread and water. That would be about as long as sthe hens lived, if they were lucky, except they lived under conditions which defy description.

it's easy 2 feel defeated when these disgusting human beings do what they do without any apparent remorse or even acknowledgement of their wrong doing. In the end, a dollar is a vote. The most effective way of stopping these "people" (a term I use loosely) is simply not to buy their products or the products of those companies they supply and encourage others to do the same. It's like anything else, where there is demand there will be supply. The consumers need to decide for themselves not to support this exploitation and abuse. The government is, unfortunately, money driven like everything else and is therefore not likely to ban battery farming anytime soon. Focus on what can realistically be achieved (but still keep the pressure on the authorities!!) and refuse to buy or eat products of torture!

absolutely grotesque, as a single mother i was more inclined to buy the cheap egg, i was curious to find out what "fresh cage eggs" really meant and discovered this degree of cruelty. Enjoy the greed of money that has brought you to disgust, karma, My contribution toward making things better for this situation will be the extra $2 or more it costs to purchase free range eggs on my next grocery shop.

I would like to say a little bit about this text, because looking at this text and i think this could be the opportunity to share to everyone else about Battery Hen Farming.Looking at these photos on the net is very not right to treat the animals like this.if we relate this text to ourselves it's it does not make any sense to me.

Thank goodness for organisations such as Auckland Animal Action. As a keeper of beloved Hamburg's I am horrified at these pictures. similar horrors have been revealed here in Lower Hutt concerning a battery operator.

i am doing a school project on farm animal rights we have been looking for some photos to put on a poster that we are making
and we have seen some pretty terrible things! but after seeing these photos i am absolutely speechless! such terrible things people are doing to such amazing animals!!
